PF Flyers 14U wins Dinger De Mayo at Action Sports in Dayton

Carson Tabler led the PF Flyers 14U to the Dinger De Mayo 14U Open Championship at Dayton’s Action Sports Center.

Tabler hit .692 on the weekend with an incredible OPS of 2.022 and threw six innings, allowing six hits, two runs and striking out nine.

He pitched a five-inning complete game in the championship game, earning the win 10-2 while striking out six.

He set the tone in the first inning of that game by striking out the side in the top of the first. The Flyers then jumped to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first after Logan Hardesty led off the inning with a double and scored on a two-run double by Alessandro Madrigal.

The Flyers added four runs in the third and then Tabler started the game-ending rally in the fifth with a leadoff double to deep right field. Jack Andolina, celebrating his 14th birthday, lined an RBI single in that inning. He advanced to second on a single by Gavin Rutherford.

Pinch runner Corwin Wang entered the game to run for Andolina. After two pitches, Wang read the pitcher and saw an opportunity to steal third. After his heads up stolen base, Hardesty hit a hard ground to third. The third baseman knocked it down, but had no play, allowing Wang to score the walkoff winner.

The Flyers earned the one seed in the tournament by going 2-0 on Saturday.

Tabler led the way in the first game, in which he went 3-for-4 and was a double short of the cycle at the plate.

That included hitting an inside-the-park home run to straight away center. That made him the first player to enjoy the Flyers’ new home run celebration.

On the mound, Tabler closed out the game by striking out the side on 10 pitches, missing an immaculate inning by one pitch.

The Flyers won 11-1.

Tabler got the elusive double in the second game on Saturday. The Flyers pounded out 11 hits. Sawyer Williams struck out the final batter with the tying run on third to end the game, preserving the win for Andolina, who pitched four innings, allowing two earned runs.

The two wins earned the Flyers a first-round bye on Sunday.

The Flyers started the semifinal game with a quick 2-0 lead.

Hardesty doubled to start the bottom of the first. Madrigal singled him in. Tabler doubled Madrigal home.

Meanwhile, Wang dominated on the mound. We went 5 2/3 innings, allowing only two earned runs and striking out three.

Alex Ward came in to get the final out of the game and earn the save and the 4-3 win.

That sent the Flyers to the championship.

Tabler finished the tournament with three doubles, a triple and a home run. He had seven runs scored and five stolen bases. Madrigal hit .571 with two doubles and 6 RBI.

The Flyers are now 15-7 with two tournament championships.
