PF Flyers 10U starts the season with tourney win
The PF Flyers 10U kicked off its 2025 season with an undefeated run to claim the K-Sports Turfmania 2 Championship in Lebanon, Ohio, despite having only nine players on the active roster.
The Flyers had already dedicated their season to teammate, Cohen Darnell, who is out indefinitely battling medical challenges that will likely prevent him from returning to the field this spring. The Flyers don the “Tourette’s Awareness” ribbon on their helmets in his honor. In addition to Darnell, the Flyers were missing Tate Brashear, who was out with an injury and stomach virus for the entire weekend.
The Flyers came out firing on Friday night with the second half of the lineup responsible for most of the runs, on the way to an 8-3 victory, which put the team in the driver’s seat for a good seed and deep run in the tournament.
In the second game of pool play, all of the bats showed up and the Flyers earned a 15-4 win. That secured the top seed heading into bracket play after the team only allowed seven runs, compared to 23 runs scored.
On championship Sunday, the Flyers faced the Central Ohio Prospects in the semi-final. Will Giffen went 3-for-3, scored twice, and had five stolen bases. Jase Haggard tallied two hits and 3 RBI. The Flyers pulled out a narrow 6-5 win with Greyson Williams throwing a gem on the mound only allowing two runs in four innings.
In the championship game against the NKY Blue Sox, Dylan Weiner pitched one of the best games of his career, throwing four innings and allowing only three hits, two runs while striking out nine.
Giffen, Haggard, Weiner and Danny Permann III each had multiple hits in the game, providing plenty of offensive firepower. The Flyers won 12-2 in the championship game in a four-inning run-rule. The win secured the first tournament title for the 10U Flyers this spring.
The Flyers are now 5-0 and return to action after a brief spring break, next week against Midland in a weekday match-up followed by the USSSA Kings Spring Slugfest Championship starting April 11th.
