PF Flyers 10U closes out the season with tournament win

The PF Flyers 10U team swept its way through the Tournaments for a Cause Crack of the Wood Bat Tournament, going 4-0 to finish the 2024 season on a high note.

It was the third straight tournament win for the Flyers, and they finished the season by winning 22 of their final 25 games.

The Flyers outscored their opponents 41-12 in the four games they played in the tournament.

In the championship game, Caleb Shaffer pitched five innings, allowing only one hit and no earned runs while striking out four.

The Flyers jumped to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning. Ryan Edwards led off with a double and stole third. Chase Collins was hit by a pitch and stole second. Max Roberts singled on a line drive to right to make it 2-0. After Roberts stole third, Carter Cassady hit an RBI groundout to make it 3-0.

Roberts finished the game 2-for-2 with two RBI and a run scored.

Cassady came on to pitch the final inning, allowing no hits and no earned runs. He struck out two.

The Flyers won the semifinal 10-1. Edwards was 2-for-2 with three runs scored, two RBI and seven stolen bases. Collins was 2-for-3 with two RBI, a run scored and five steals. Colton Rash was 2-for-2 with two RBI.

Bronx Debert went 4 1/3 innings pitched, allowing three hits and one earned run. He struck out three.

The Flyers began pool play on Saturday with a 16-1 win. Collins was 3-for-3 with four RBI, a double, two runs scored and two stolen bases. Curtis Lowe was 3-for-3 with three RBI and a run scored. Tim Finley was 1-for-1 with a double, two RBI and two runs scored.

In the second pool play game, the Flyers fell behind 3-0 in the first inning. They came back from a 3-1 deficit in the third. Finley led the inning off with a single. Debert and Shaffer walked. Edwards hit an infield single to make it 3-2. Collins hit a sacrifice fly to make it 3-3. Later in the inning, Cassady walked to make it 4-3. The Flyers held on for the 10-8 win.

The Flyers finished the season 29-8-2 with four tournament wins this spring and one last fall.
