PF Flyers 12U finishes season with tournament win
The PF Flyers 12U team won its first ever tournament championship, winning the 12U Silver PYO Patriots Mid-Summer Classic Tournament in West Chester on Sunday.
The Flyers outscored their opponents 31-12 in bracket play to earn the championship.
Garrett White pitched a five-inning complete game in the final, and Nolan White was 1-for-2 with a home run.
The Flyers fell behind 2-0 in the first inning, but roared back with five runs in the top of the second.
Nolan White hit a one-out homer to cut the deficit in half. Baer Werner and Sam Martell singled. One out later, Bradley Schaiper walked. Then Ephrem Streit hit a two-run double and Grayson Hicks hit a two-run double. That gave the Flyers a 5-2 lead.
They added four more in the third, two in the fourth and five in the fifth to earn the 16-5 win and the tournament championship.
Garrett White was 3-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored. Hicks was 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored.
Nolan White had two home runs in the tournament.
The Flyers went 0-1-1 in pool play, but rallied on Sunday in bracket play.
Their first game they faced a team that had beat them 13-8 in pool play. The score was tied 5-5 in the top of the fifth when the Flyers erupted for 10 runs.
With one out, Streit singled. Hicks doubled him home to take a 6-5 lead. After Drew Schmittou reached on an error, Garrett White and Gavin Fronk had RBI singles. Aiden Um was hit by a pitch. Nolan White singled to make it 10-5.
But the Flyers weren’t done.
Werner reached on an error to extend the inning. Then Martell, Wes Conkl and Schaiper all singled to make it 14-5. Hicks later hit a ball and reached on an error for the 15th run.
Martell pitched the bottom of the fifth to close out the game. The Flyers held on to win 15-7 and head to the championship.
