PF Flyers 13U American wins Turfmania II

PF Flyers 13U American used stellar defense to win the Turfmania II tournament this weekend in West Chester.

The Flyers committed only two errors in their four games and each player made at least one game-saving play that went well beyond the routine.

The Flyers scored eight runs in the first two innings of the championship game against the Canes Ohio and held on for the 9-8 win.

The Flyers pounded out 12 hits. Cooper Berlin was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and three RBI. Connor Bitler was 2-for-3 with a walk, two runs scored and two RBI. Eli Greenlee was 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Greenlee earned the win on the mound. He pitched the final three innings and allowed only three hits and no earned runs.

Overall, the Flyers went 3-0-1 in the tournament.

The Flyers won 13-5 in their first game on Saturday, thanks to 14 hits. Berlin was 2-for-2 with four RBI and a home run.

The second game of pool play was a pitcher’s duel that ended in a 1-1 tie. The Flyers scored their lone run in the second inning when Thomas Gruber reached on an error that allowed Logan Walters to score.

The Flyers won the semifinal 10-2. Berlin and Lincoln Heim allowed only three hits and two runs over six innings.

That sent the Flyers to that championship.

The Flyers are now 3-0-1 on the season.
