PF Flyers 13U National wins at Grand Park

PF Flyers 13U National scored three times in the bottom of the sixth inning to take a 4-2 lead in the championship game of the Shamrock Classic at Grand Park in Indiana.

The Flyers held on in the seventh to win the tournament, their first championship of 2024.

Ezra Scheffler led off the sixth inning by reaching on an error. One out later, Braxton Butler worked a walk. Connor Chaney singled to tie the game at 2. Kaleb Ratliff singled to load the bases before Kale Pittser hit a two-run single to give the Flyers the lead and the tournament win.

The Flyers finished the tournament 5-0.

The Flyers went 2-0 in pool play to earn the two-seed heading into bracket play on Sunday.

In the first round on Sunday, Crew Scott and Grayson Williamson combined for a two-hitter. Williamson allowed only one baserunner in three innings on a tidy 28 pitches. The Flyers won 6-2.

A nine-run second inning powered the Flyers to victory in the semifinal. Six of the Flyers nine hits in the game came in the second. For the game, Scott was 2-for-2 with a walk, an RBI and two runs scored. K.J. Thomas was 2-for-3.

Butler earned the win in relief in the championship game. He pitched the final five innings and allowed only two hits and no earned runs. Pittser was 2-for-3 in the championship game with 2 RBI.

The Flyers are now 7-1 on the season.
