PF Flyers 10U wins SWOL Silver Championship Tournament

PF Flyers 10U’s offense roared to life on championship Sunday and powered the team to the Southwest Ohio League Silver Tournament Championship.

The Flyers scored 42 runs in three games on Sunday and in the tournament scored 64 runs in five games.

In the 15-5 championship game win, the Flyers had 14 hits. Chase Collins led the way. He went 4-for-4 with a double, three runs scored and two RBI. He also had five stolen bases.

Caleb Shaffer earned the win on the mound. He pitched three innings, allowing three hits and no earned runs while striking out three.

The Flyers started the tournament by winning the first pool play game 13-1. Max Roberts and Isaac Mahle combined for three innings pitched. They allowed one hit, one walk and one unearned run. Roberts struck out four in two innings.

Collins was 2-for-2 with two runs scored and two RBI. He had five stolen bases. Roberts was 2-for-3 with a double, a run scored and two RBI. Ryan Edwards was 1-for-1 with three runs scored and six stolen bases.

The Flyers lost in their second game of pool play 14-9.

In bracket play, the Flyers fell behind 6-2 in the fourth. But they scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth to cut the lead to 6-5. Curtis Lowe started the rally with a triple.

Then they rallied for six runs in the bottom of the fifth and Carter Cassady closed out the game for an 11-6 win.

Edwards started the rally with a single. Collins walked. Roberts hit a two-run double to give the Flyers the lead. One out later, Tim Finley was hit by a pitch and then Cassady hit an RBI single. Mahle grounded out to score a run. After Cassady stole home to make it 10-6, Colton Rash walked and Bronx Debert singled him home for the 11-6 lead.

The Flyers fell behind 2-0 in the semifinal before scoring six in the second, four in the third and six in the fourth to earn the 16-6 win.

Debert was 3-for-3 with a double, a home run, three runs scored and four RBI. Rash was 2-for-2 with a double, three runs scored and an RBI. He added five stolen bases.

That sent the Flyers to the championship.

On the weekend, Collins hit .714.

The Flyers are now 25-8-2 and have won three tournaments this spring and have won two tournaments in a row.
