Mike Canan
Secretary, Director of Communications, 15U Head Coach
Mike Canan is a veteran manager, communicator, baseball coach and leader. He is a co-founder of the PF Flyers Baseball organization.
Mike fell in love with baseball at age 9 and has been obsessed ever since. When he realized his passion far surpassed his skill, he decided he wanted to be a newspaper baseball beat writer. After several years as a sportswriter, covering baseball (among other sports) and getting to interview some of the game's best, he went into news management.
When his oldest son, Rhys, was born he got back into baseball and has spent the last 11 years involved in the sport as a head coach, assistant coach and board member in Little League, Knothole and travel baseball organizations in Ohio and Florida.
He coaches his youngest son, Wes. That 12U team started as a 10U Southwest Ohio League Silver division team and through hard work and development has steadily improved each year. After winning the Silver Division Championship, the team moved to the Gold Division and finished tied atop the Gold East standings before narrowly losing in the Gold Division tournament’s championship game. In 2022, Mike moved the team to the SWOL National Division. In 2023, the team went 42-9-2, won six tournament championships and earned its first Travel Baseball Rankings state ranking.
Outside of baseball, Mike has led news organizations in Florida and Ohio for 15 years, including most recently as news director of WCPO. He currently works in a leadership role at a national nonprofit foundation focused on journalism.
Mike’s passion is developing the people around him -- whether that is the journalists he works with or the boys he coaches on the baseball field.
Mike lives in Norwood with his two sons, his wife, Hillary, and two dogs -- Brucie (named after Jay Bruce) and Bellinger (named after Cody Bellinger).
